What Are All-on-4® Dental Implants?

Dental implants offer comprehensive tooth replacement, providing long-lasting, natural-looking results that are almost as strong as natural teeth.

For single-tooth loss, an individual implant may be all that is required for total smile restoration. If you have experienced the loss of an entire arch of teeth or anticipate having numerous teeth extracted, All-on-4® dental implants are the preferred treatment method. This unique approach can replace entire rows of teeth, supported by as few as four total dental implants.

All-on-4® technology makes it possible to regain a full, healthy, functional smile, all with the precision and longevity that dental implants are known for.

How Are All-on-4® Dental Implants Different from Dentures?

Before the introduction of All-on-4® dental implants, the standard option for full smile restoration was a traditional denture. However, traditional dentures have some limitations. These prostheses fit on top of your gums, which means they do not replace your tooth root or stimulate your jaw. Not only can this contribute to further bone deterioration, but it also means dentures are not as stable, strong, or secure as dental implants.

All-on-4® dental implants address these concerns, anchoring custom dental prostheses with surgically placed dental implants. This provides strength, security, and comfort that traditional dentures cannot match, along with a bite power that almost equals that of your natural teeth.

Ideal Candidates for All-on-4® Dental Implants

To determine your eligibility for the All-on-4® dental implants, we invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hill, our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Following a full physical evaluation and a discussion of your medical history, Dr. Hill will verify your candidacy for a safe, successful procedure.

Missing Teeth

You are an ideal candidate for this treatment if you are missing multiple teeth, including entire dental arches, or anticipate having numerous teeth extracted.

Good Health

For All-on-4® dental implants, you must also be in good health overall, without any untreated periodontal disease or underlying health conditions that would increase your risk of surgical complications.

What Is Involved in the All-on-4® Dental Implants Process?

Your All-on-4® treatment journey begins with a consultation, during which Dr. Hill will verify your eligibility for surgery. He will also explain the details of the surgery and answer any questions you might have about the procedure.

In some cases, you may need preparatory procedures before you are ready for All-on-4® dental implants. For example, you may need to treat gum disease, extract non-viable teeth, or undergo a bone graft to ensure your implants can be securely anchored in place.

On the day of your All-on-4® procedure, you will receive a warm welcome from our team and be accompanied to a safe, private treatment area. Our highly experienced anesthesia team will administer sedation, monitor your safety, and promote your comfort throughout the procedure. Dr. Hill uses X-Guide® technology to capture a full 3-D image of your mouth and the implant placement site. This X-Guide system allows Dr. Hill to map out the surgery more carefully in advance, minimize the need for incisions, and deliver the most accurate, precise, and predictable results.

In addition to placing your dental implants, Dr. Hill will work with your dentist to incorporate temporary replacement teeth (temporary crowns), allowing you to leave with a confident and full smile.

Recovery and Aftercare

For most patients, recovery from All-on-4® dental implants is fairly easy. We recommend taking 48 to 72 hours to rest at home. During this time, you can anticipate some mild symptoms of swelling and soreness. These symptoms are easily managed with over-the-counter remedies like Tylenol® and Ibuprofen. Our practice uses the Comfort Control Clock™, making it easier to safely control your medication use at home.

You will also receive a post-surgery diet plan, allowing you to protect your new implants while they heal, but also to gradually transition back to your regular diet.
